Willkommen zu Seitengewehr

Seitengewehr

Hello & welcome to Seitengewehr. I am a bayonet collector as well as a collector of antique & military surplus firearms & german militaria although I really collect from several countries. I decided that I would use the blogging format as means of sharing photos of my personal collection of bayonets & military surplus firearms, as well as provide factual information on bayonets & certain military surplus firearms, etc.

I am always looking for bayonets to purchase for my personal collection.
If you have any bayonets for sale that you wish to sell, please contact me ar  admin at gew88.com.  Do not contact me if you’re a dealer. Too many dealers gouge prices & I know for a fact that these dealers acquire their items dirt cheap to resell at 500%+ markup.  I have no interest in paying exceedingly excessive prices of dealers.  Before you consider selling to a dealer, contact me.  Dealers will only offer you 5 to 10% of what they would resell it for.

If you have a bayonet, or bayonets & you need identification assistance and appraisal, the charge is $10 US per bayonet.   Your identification, appraisal & evaluation will include manufacturer, country of origin, date or era as well as conflict & some historical information.  Payment shall be via paypal. Click here for appraisal and identification information.

If you’re trying to sell bayonets, contact me & I may be interested in purchasing it, or I can sell it for you on consignment via various channels available to me as I have an extensive network of colleages & contacts in the worldwide collecting community.

The word Seitengewehr is German for bayonet but is interchangeable in the German language to also include sword & sidearm.

You may notice that my writings are in English, however, titles & categories are in German. I decided to use both German & English as the word Seitengewehr is from the German language, however, I only speak & understand minimal German, so will write in English as this is my native tongue as I am an American. Alas, forgive me if my German translation is poor. You will see that the page navigation titles are German up top, however, the text of the page is english & you can find the page titles in english to the right in the column.

Also, I chose to use German because I am particularly interested in Seitengewehr Hergestellt in Deutschland. (Bayonets Made in Germany.) I will provide as much translation necessary, but for the most part, you should be able to figure it out & just click around to see what you find.

You will find links to the different posts & pages in the right sidebar, as well as the top of the page.

My interests are WWI German bayonets & WWII Third Reich bayonets as well as Japanese bayonets, but collect bayonets from all countries. I am also interested in antique firearms, particularly military issue rifles such as Gew 88 aka German 1888 Commission Rifle, as well as German Gewehr 71/84 which was the first cartridge shooting rifle by Paul Mauser. I’m also interested in Russian and Finnish Mosin-Nagant as well as Mausers among other early cartridge shooting military surplus. I will be including information & photographs from my personal collection of these military surplus firearms & other antique rifles.

I plan on making this website a wealth of resources for collectors. I often find it difficult to find particular things when utilizing the search engines, so I will make this a website that collectors will find to be a valueable asset as well as a source of reliable information.

If you’re looking for books on bayonets, please buy from the bayonets bookstore. Your purchase helps me allocate funds for acquiring more research material & helps with the costs of operating this website.

Your thoughts & comments are welcome.

  2. Hello! I have a question about the repro SG-42 currently being sold by Interordance, Inc. (www.ioinc.us), item no. k98k0004. I’d like to know just how faithful a repro it is. I note that the blade doesn’t have a blood groove, while other k98k SG I’ve seen have them. Any input would be appreciated.

  3. Sorry, I know nothing about repro bayonets as I don’t buy them. They’re garbage & not for collecting.

  4. I hope this is getting to the right person, I have been trying to register as a member of “GEW88.COM” & it wont take my secret code that is displayed for me to type into a field. As you can probably tell, I am in dire need of help with my somewhat newly adopted German family of 12… GEW 88’s, 71/84’s & a 71.
I have been collecting since 1974 (as a kid) & the 88’s & 71/84’s are getting harder to find parts for these days.
Any help with joining “GEW88.COM” will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Dan Riggle

  5. Hello
    I have three 88`s.
one of the Turkish refurbishes, the other two are veteran souvenir`s which are in their original issue box clip config but collectively missing a bolt, bolt head, rear sight, rear sling swivels (what does the leather sling look like? same as the G98?).
Can anyone guide me with parts?
Also what does the original cleaning kit look like for the 88? - I know it is not the cigar tin type of the WW2 k98 but it may be similar to the sewing kit type for the G98.
    Thanks

  6. I never seen an original cleaning kit for Gewehr 88. As far as the sling goes, yes, it is the same as that found on the Gew 98 but don’t buy the over priced ones on ebay as you can get better ones from IMA-USA for half the price.
